TRS at the 9th Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño
The Recycle Studio is pleased to announce our participation in the 9th Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño (BID24) in Madrid, running from October 8, 2024, to January 6, 2025.
The central exhibition of BID24 showcases the best recent design work from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. It includes various design disciplines: interior and spatial design, product and industrial design, graphic design, fashion and textiles, digital design, service design, and interdisciplinary projects. We’ll be representing Costa Rica in the product and industrial design area with our Bathroom Collection, a five-piece series developed in collaboration with MXNBG.
At The Recycle Studio, we recognize that the future of design must encompass sustainability alongside function and aesthetics. The Bathroom Collection is a testament to this approach, demonstrating how sustainability can be seamlessly integrated into thoughtful design.
On the surface, the sustainability aspects of our collection are clear—our products are made from 100% upcycled plastic waste sourced in Costa Rica, ensuring no natural resources are depleted in our production processes. Digging deeper, we’re proud that, like all our materials, our pieces are 100% recyclable, maintaining their value even if they are no longer needed. The shower caddy and towel rack feature a glue-less joining technique, allowing for easy assembly and disassembly while ensuring recyclability. We designed the collection to maximize the efficiency of our M-CD sheet material, filling any empty spaces with additional soap dishes. Additionally, our commitment to circular design means all waste is reused, and our workshop, along with those of our providers, operates on Costa Rica’s renewable energy grid.
And on top of all that, we’ve ensured that in moving towards sustainability, aesthetics and functionality are not sacrificed. The modern aesthetic highlights the material’s origin story, while its natural mold and impact resistance allow us to meet technical requirements as well.
Our participation in BID24 underscores our commitment to advancing design that is both innovative and responsible. By showcasing our Bathroom Collection, we aim to contribute to the broader dialogue on how design can address environmental challenges while maintaining high standards of beauty and functionality. We look forward to engaging with fellow designers and visitors at BID24 and exploring new possibilities for sustainable design.
